So Im working on getting a 1400 gallon system up and running. Ive been wanting to try the HW Marinemix that BRS is so highly fond of...and just my luck its 49.99 right now with free shipping. So I ordered. Ordered 10 boxes of the stuff. That is a LOT of salt! My UPS guy isn't going to like me much come Tuesday or Wednesday...

I get mine locally and usually pick up 7-10 200 gallon cases at a time of Instant Ocean. That lasts me 5-6 months. Sometimes less.

Do you order that through your LFS or do you purchase it online?

My 10 boxes are for an initial fill which Im hoping I can get finished plumbed, and ready to fill over the holidays...

Do you see any caking of the salt after a year? Do you have to stir up the salt before mixing? How has it settled after a year?

I order thru LFS ... ESV is 4 separate 'elements' (2 dry and 2 liquid) that are mixed when needed...I change 60g a week for my tank and 20g 2x a month for my grandson's 130g tank...gonna need more shortly, upgrading his tank to 300g in a few months

I tend to do 6 boxes at a time of the 200g. Corallife salt. I have to order a new set of boxes every six months or so. i mainly just want to make sure i get free shipping for $175+ orders.

I wish coralife salt was still available here. I remember one boxing day I bought about 10 buckets which lasted close to 2 years. This year I will probably get 6 or so reef crystals buckets or boxes.

Pallet of IO for me - 32 boxes, maybe? Gets pretty cheap that way if the LFS knows what they are doing.

You people must live in big houses with lots of storage space. If I order more than one bucket of salt, my fish room, which is also my home-office, gets crowded.

i just keep in my garage. i could store an additional 200 boxes if I cared to, without taking away space for our cars to park in it. IMO, it is easier when doing the boxes of salt in lieu of the buckets.

A pallet is 40 boxes and when it's on sale and the deal is best that means each box is between 28-30$ so 1200$. Getting ready to split a pallet of IO with someone as we speak. This is for instant ocean other salts will vary on what they consider a pallet

I use to buy it by the bucket, now I get it by the bag. The bag last about 2 months.
