Hent'z 23 Shallow Reef

So... As much as I'd hate to downgrade my beautiful 75, life's plans are more important than a reef tank at the moment..

Though lets be honest, none of us can get out of the hobby! So I'm downgrading to a cool 23 LeeMar Shallow tank!

Equipment:
- 23 Gallon LeeMar Tank (30"x15"x12")
- 20 Gallon Long Sump
- MP10/20 (Still debating on using both or just the MP20)
- 24" Reefbreeders Photon (For the time being, may go 24" ATI)
- Reef Octopus NWB-110 Protein Skimmer


Still unsure what I'm going to do with this tank. Probably a mixed reef, though reality being I'm a stick addict.. So will probably have a lot more sticks than anything else.

Also will be going bare bottom! I'm crazy about BB and probably won't ever go back to having a sanded! :uzi:

As for scaping, I do want to lean more towards a clean minimalistic aquascape. Maybe bonsai if I can with such a shallow tank.

Anyways, lets start this downgrade and see where it goes! Not having a strict plan like usual, just letting this tank run its course.

Tank is taking a little longer than expected. Have a few colonies I feel won't fit into this downgrade very well!

I will say, when you're tired it's the best thing to fall asleep though.

It's pretty bad when you're wasted, trying to go to bed, and the wave motion is making me sicker haha

Another problem is when you work on them, you clutter up the bedroom and also not much space for junk. But all-in-all an awesome place for a tank.

FINALLY downgraded. Need to play with the lights still and get them straight. Having dinner shortly with the family so I don't have time to mess with em.

Corals barely fit, I'm surprised they did. I like the little arch kinda hanging rock look. Now time for this tank to settle in. Gonna get the fish in tomorrow. Busy week with work and looking at venue's for my wedding! Lord help me find time!!!! lol

UPDATE!

Everything is doing fine in the transition. The light is hung about 6 inches off the water, maybe an inch more. Just my estimation. This is coming from 14" off the water so I had to turn down the intensity immensely. Recalculating all of the %'s now to get a much better and less intense schedule.

All the corals are doing okay. My Red Planet frag and other (Shortcake of some sort?) is doing very well with amazing polyp extension. I had 1 of my ORA colonies bleach out towards the end. Broke it off then accidentally fragged a mini colony of it. So I replaced the broken colony across the tank. Have some aptasia coming back, so will be purchasing some Peppermint Shrimp to take care of em, hopefully.

Skimmer is just barely skimming lol. Not sure if because it's not tuned completely yet or its just really over rated (about 4 times over). Cleaned the neck this morning, a bit gunky but nothing crazy.

Ended up taking off my MP10 and using my MP20 instead.

Hate to say it, but I'm not in love with this tank.

The 12" tall is killing me and I've come to realize I definitely like looking at shallow tanks compared to owning one.

That's definitely a sad thing to realize. It's a shame because it's a beautiful looking tank. Time to upgrade the downgrade already?

Really debating on it. There's that IM Fusion 40 for $150 off at my LFS. I've already got a buyer for my tank too.
