Guys,
My tank has been running for about four months. It's approximately 70 gallon tank with a sump and an aqua one skimmer. I have a few corals and four fish, no cuc. My water parameters are:

Calcium - 520
Nitrate - 40
Nitrite - 0
Ammonia - 0
KH- 7
magnesium 1410
Alkalinity - 1.025

I have a bit of dramas with algae but that's probably mainly due to the fact that I started with tap water. I have now purchased an RO unit and doing water changes. My issue is with the skimmer. It has good white foam but never produces any black waste. Should I be concerned?

Thanks.

that does not sound right can you raise the water level in the neck, is there nothing in the cup can snap a pic.

Agree with Denbf58. Sounds like you're running the water too low in the skimmer.

Guys,
Here are the photos. Hope they are ok, it's obviously fairly dark under there.

Neil.

I would try to raise the water level. You want to make small adjustments and then let it run for a while to get a feel for the impact of the change.

Thanks guys. I have raised the water level and removed the black cap from the plastic tube and instant success.

Don't forget to check phosphates. They also contribute to algae
