Just set up a 180g I bought used. Corner internal overflows. I notice the water moves up and down in them. The holes in the stack pipe are small. Would widening them a little to allow more airflow alleviate this? I'm assuming so but wanted to be sure before I drilled.

no ball valve. drain is 1", return is 3/4". Its a Jaebo DC12000 pump. I have it dialed all the way down. Tried it up at max and on minimum. Water rises to pipe bend and then drops back. When I cover hole the water drops. So thats why I figured more air would allow it to flow a little smoother. Was just thinking of using the drill to widen slightly. Currently its so smaill a piece of airline would not fit in there.

How many drains only one? I have a bean animal snd mine dies that when the flow is too low.

2 corner drains tying into 1 going into a filter sock.

That might be ypur problem. Try splitting them into individual drains

Look into doing a Herbie conversion on the drain. This will give you more flow and quieter operation.

What is happening is your siphon is starting and then it pulls more water than your return is pumping back. So the siphon starts and restarts when the overflow empties out
