90 gallon display, 40 gallon 3 compartment sump. Mixed reef sps dominant.

Middle sump compartment is a rock/chaeto/caulerpa fuge. Rubble in the baffle between 2nd and 3rd chambers.

I haven't really ever suffered from detritus buildup, high nitrates or phosphates. I'm considering filling the entire sump with rock rubble. Leaving space for my return pump and skimmer. What would the setbacks to this be? Really would like to increase biological diversity through safe zones in the tank. I have a lot of pod eaters in the display.

Thats what my sump is like. Bare bottom live rock around pump. Chaeto everywhere else. Gfo in bag snd carbon in bag under drain pipes from overflow. NO problems so far... Nitrates 0. Phosphates 0.
