This a nation wide one or regional one? I could use another couple 40B's. Looking on their website isn't getting me verry far.

to bad the tanks are tempered...or at least most of them

Couple of conditions that were a bit of a surprise, but still a good deal.

1) you have to join their rewards club,

2) you have pay tax on the full price, not the discounted price.

This doesn't make sense to me. You pay on the purchase price...not a suggested retail price. They're probably still making money on the sale of the tank...

EDIT - just checked with the wife (Tax Major) - since it's a sales tax (on the sale itself), what they're doing is illegal.

I was only charged sales tax on the actual purchase price, but sales tax and rules will vary by state. I am in PA. They did make me join their club again. I give fake ohone numbers and emails, and can never remember what I told them the last time...

This is great news I need a 29 for a new sump!

I just bought a couple lights and a 40 gallon to help setup my 180 fish only tank. It was cheaper than trying to find a used tank to use as a sump.

Yeah.. that doesn't sound legit. It was probably a mistake.

no, this practice is extremely common on heavily discounted items. not a mistake at all.

Might be a Florida thing. There was a notice on the receipt that said in-store discounts were charged tax on the actual price but mfg rebates were taxed on the full price.

I just got back with a 40B (new sump), 10 (ATO reservoir) and a 29 (possible sump). $100 out the door! Woo Hoo!

Your wife might want to change her major :D

What they are doing is perfectly legal, and is actually determined by each individual state's laws.
The tanks are not "on sale" at all. They are at their original retail prices and then you are granted an appropriate "instant rebate" via their PALS savings program to reduce your cost to the $1 per gallon rate.

Well, I stopped in at Petsmart since it was closer to me than Petco, and they had their tanks on sale - the 20 gallon long for $20.00. So, I bought it, and it was taxed for $20.00. I intend to turn it into a sump for my 50 gallon acrylic. Gotta love competative price wars.

Is there a significant difference in the quality of the tanks being offered at Petco/Petsmart? I have both near me and they are both running the $1 per gallon sale.
