Bought a fairy wrasse today for my son, He is in a 40 breeder. Currently I have a sheet of acrylic covering the top but need a net or something similar not to obstruct much light from the sps. BRS sells netting would that be the way to go? If so what type of frame?

Goto the hardware store and pickup some fiberglass screen and make a wooden frame. One sheet of screen will block some light though.

I didn't know BRS sold the whole kit, just ordered one.

I do not recommend keeping your son in a 40b!

Too funny!

I have used the BRS kits and it worked really well!

I use eggcrate and lots of light, but the BRS ones I've seen on here are very nice, I think sliff or somebody that's ROTM has a good photo of his.

When he was younger I did keep him in a 46 but he quickly outgrew it.

Get the 1/4" screen from BRS, the frame parts from HD/Lowes. Although not a great picture, here's a shot of mine. I did two sections - one that stays in place for wires to run through, the other easily removable for feeding/cleaning

Don't forget the screen tool!

BTW, egg crate is actually called light diffuser. It can significantly reduce the light making it into the aquarium. Go with the BRS 1/4" screen. If you have halides in close proximity the mesh won't last very long. Maybe 8-12 months.

I just picked up a "reptile screen lid" for $16. fits my 20L QT well (although the HOB filter is coming in the way)

Something like this.

Is it metal screening?

Is it metal screening?

Yes, but I picked something similar from a nearby Petland store, not the exact same thing I posted above. The screen and metal frame are coated black just FYI.

IMO, as soon as you see rust or flaking...throw it out!
