I replaced my 250w halide in april of 2014 with a radion xr30w pro. the tank had been running just shy of a year with the halide over it. i made the switch to avoid having to incorporate a chiller into my system as well as i was looking for a dusk and dawn effect and i pretty much just wanted to try something new.

my tank is a 40 breeder, bare bottom with a 20 long sump directly below it. my ASM G3 skimmer sits in the sump and has some spare RO line ran outside my bedroom which feeds the skimmer fresh air. below are three pictures which show the skimmer line beneath the tank (which is exposed to the LED from above the main tank and through bare bottom), the line which runs behind the tank which isn't really exposed to any direct light as i have a black background on the tank, and the last picture shows the line that exits the house and is exposed to natural sun light.

so basically my findings were as follows:
1st picture - red macro line exposed to led lighting through aquarium has a good amount of faded color or bleaching.
2nd picture- red macro line has no fading as it is not directly exposed to led light nor sun light.
3rd picture- red macro line exposed to direct sun light has lost basically all red color.

i would attribute this to UV rays bleaching the line and causing the red to fade away. now obviously the sun is much stronger than my radion is but i found it pretty cool that the radion is also putting out enough uv to bleach the line through my main tank, through the bottom of the glass for a distance of about 5'- and half of it is penetration through the water column.

i never had any bleaching of lines with the MH.. curious to know if anybody has? im no light expert either so maybe this is a no brainer to some people who would say of course that would happen as the radion utilizes LEDs in the 420nm spectrum which we know as Ultra Violet light. anyways just thought i would share. very impressed with the radion thus far after being a die hard halide fan for over 10 years.
