Anyone using the BeanAnimal over flow with filter socks? I use the bean animal and love it, but I want to use socks and I'd like to know if anyone is using socks and if you are, is it still silent?

Yes, The socks are silent until they get filled up and the water flows around them creating a bit of noise.

yup
change them out when they start to overflow and make sure your sump is designed to contain the water in the event of an overflow.

The best way is to have the drains empty into a smaller compartment in your sump and then overflow into a sock compartment.
This makes sock changes much easier.

Here's an example I just found.

my sock holder is also recessed into the sump so overflow is into the sump and well contained.

that is a massive sump! are those 4 inch socks?

I like this design. Do you think that having the water level below the socks high enough, that there is no splashing and in turn no noise, is a problem?

Dennis, that sump is sweet! Did you have it custom build, never seen anything like it and would love to see the whole thing, Robert.

That's not mine.
I said above that it's an example I just found.

I'm not really a big fan of socks.
I just had a LifeReef sump build with trays that hold filter pads instead.
Much easier to deal with than socks, IMHO.

But my OLD sump used something similar to the above.
THIS is my pic. ;)
