I picked up a pretty sweet 66 gallon (245 litre) Cylindrical tank yesterday for an absolute steal. it is 400mm high, radius is 450mm and thickness is 15mm. it has some crazing and deep scratches but i'm optimistic on repairing those.

The plan for this tank is to make a minimalistic design rimless shallow reef with hanging par 30 spotlighting .

I have some difficulties with designing the stand. I want to build it with wood and wrap it with some flexible sheeting for a super clean finish.

My question is how strong is acrylic, would it be enough to support it on a round cut plyboard with 4 standing beams underneath? or would i have to build a hexagonial shaped stand ( 6 beams supporting, 6 pressure points).

Another question is how to repair the scratches. Some are very deep and on the top there is some chipping on 2 places. for the little scratches i bought a novus 1,2,3 (http://www.amazon.com/Novus-Plastic-Polish-8oz-Extra/dp/B0029B518O) scratch removal polishing kit.

But the deep scratches won't disappear with this stuff. what steps of grid wet sandpaper would you use for removing deep scratches? is using 1000 and 2000 grid enough?

i'd love to see some stands , googling it does not come with many results. Probably because cylindrical aquariums are not very common with diy'ers, i can only find commercial ones.

the scratches and some crazing :

With acrylic you need a full supporting rigid top on the stand. Not really sure how i would do it on a round tank, but just ply will not do. It needs cross members under the ply.
