Hi, same question as title. found a deal for a used 80watt steriliser. I have a 55gal tank with 20 gal sump.

Is it too big for my tank? 80wats would be heave on the electricity too, so should i go for a smaller one or can the 80wats be justified?

Since i moved to my new house the tank is near a window and getting alot of algae on my sand and windows building up fairly quickly, would the UV help improve this by much?

UV will help as a water clarifier, but you don't need one that big for this purpose.

You can't overdose with UV, except for heat. You could run it part of the time like at night, on a timer.

Thanks for the advice, I called my LFS and they told me the stopped selling the 80W Deltecs as the bulbs kept on blowing on them if the pump stopped running too quick for any reason. So gonna pass up on this one.

I might try find a nice 9w UV on the cheap to invest in.

For the algae I bought my self a reactor to remove phosphate, see in a few weeks see if it does the job!!
