It was bleaching and then it gained color again. It looks really then and brittle. I can't remember if it was this then when I got it. What happens when and SPS dies? Does it turn white, or will it have some color (turn dark or possibly grow coralline algae? The pics were taken at the same time. They just show different contrasts.

Pick it up and smell it. Sps stinks. If it has no smell, it's dead

Sorry it is gone. Get rid of it and the algae growing from it.

You learn something every day. I can't say that I've ever smelled SPS nor would I expect a healthy specimen to stink. This hobby has no end to the wonders.

Dead as a door nail. You are quite literally looking at its skeleton.

IDK if stink is necessarily the right word, but SPS definitely have a very distinct smell to them.

Looks done ;sometimes sps surprise you with an unexpected recovery, though. I wouldn't rely on my nose alone. The trouble is a dead or near dead sps may harbor the parasites that may have killed it; so, removing them is often a prudent choice.

Some LPS will re-emerge from deep within the skeleton. SPS not so much.

It's not dead at all...its an ultra rare Duece Bigalow Algae Acro. Frag it and sell it for $1000 per inch.

Just kidding...its very dead. As mentioned above, toss it since it is a source for algae growth.

Besides algae, it may also affect your nitrate if you leave it in.
