I contracted my lfs a year ago when I moved from one house to another. They setup my new 90 gal tank with sump. During a full cleaning of my sump I noticed that they used a metal screw type of clamp on the hose connected to the return pump. (I'm assuming maybe it is supposed to be galvanized ?) It was rusted pretty bad. I removed it, but now wonder if I need to put something back to keep the hose tight. (runs fine for now)

Is there something that can be used in the water?

A zip tie? I'm not sure if this would be strong enough though.

Look on BRS they have plastic ratchet clamps for tubing. I would guess the big box stores would have them as well. Good luck

I use a zip tie on my pump. I just made sure I tightened it good below one of the barbs to hold it in place. That is all I use and so far so good.

(Of course now I'll read on this thread someone that used zip ties and something happened and get scared and change em all out haha)

There's not really any pressure on the line so a zip tie or two should work fine.

Zip ties will not work, They may hold or fail (50/50) you can't get them tight enough. You need to use a Nylon Snapper Clamp.

Yes, this is what I do. Get them nice and tight around the hose below the barb closest to the base of the fitting (so that the hose is compressed into a narrowed diameter) and it will be fine. No way or it to come free.
