I recently bought a 75 undrilled (future dogface) tank. I want to take a 20 long & turn it into a sump/refuge.

I know plexiglass, 100% silicone, filter sock, & return pump (have no idea on size) will be needed.

Some advice or pointed in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

They have sliders that you can insert into the sump and expand for a tight fit. No need for socks all you need is a piece of 100-1000 micron felt. Or hell a lot of people don't have mechanical filtration, they use a good refugium, lots of live rock, and water changes.

Using plexiglass is risky for two reasons: 1) The silicone won't stick to it so unless the plexi is fairly thick and there is lots of silicone involved, you risk having the baffles pop and leak. 2) The bigger risk is that plexiglass expands as it absorbs water. If there isn't enough room around the baffles, you risk having the glass break due to the pressure of the expanding plastic. This is especially problematic with the thicker plexi as it will resist bending more and therefore put more pressure onto the glass itself.
