Really? My phosphates is at 0.04 now and will be at 0.02 till I feed again then go back up to 0.04 it probably doesn't matter to much and I'm chasing numbers ... But every once in awhile I get burnt tips and I thinks it's from my phosphates going up to high to fast but I'm not sure I know alk swings do this but mines been pretty stable ...

Every time you feed, the organisms digest the food and there will be a burst of excreted phosphate some period of time later. It will never be exactly steady unless you feed constantly (or not at all).

That said, some of the variation may be testing error. Test the same sample 50 times and I guarantee any hobby method will not show exactly 0.02 ppm every time. :)
