Hi, I have my tank running about 7 months now, these two were hitchhikers on the live rock, I left them alone from day one. The small white one hasnt really grown but the brown one has grown a good bit. Just wondering should I keep them or could they be bad?

The brown anemone is Aptasia . Kill it with fire now ! If you don't get rid of it now you will regret it later as they can and will take over your tank if you ignore it .

just to be clear, you dont actually have to kill it with fire. you can search all of the ways to kill aiptasia.

I can't tell what the white anemone is on my phone, but it's 100% bleached and most likely consuming itself for energy to hang on. Try to grab more pictures so we can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the replies, Ill try get a better pic of the white one, but its very small and hard to get the camera to focus on it, and i think it actualy is consuming its self to stay alive, it was bit bigger at one point now that you mention it.

Had a feeling that it was aiptasia, looked up you can kill it with boiling water, and the rock can be taken out so might put some fire to it to aswell to make sure it doesnt come back :blown: :hammer:

Aiptasia are non photosynthetic so the fact one is white or brown does not mean it is healthy. They can reproduce asexually and reproduce prolifically if left unchecked. I'm betting these guy's are not alone. I've had luck squirting them with kalk paste using a syringe but stay on them. They will drive you nuts later if you don't stop them now.

Please don't boil live rock. Why do you want to destroy good things in the rock and then have an ammonia/nitrate spike from dead matter in the rock. And risk putting toxic fumes into your air. Don't bother taking out the rock. Much easier ways to kill it. Inject with lemon juice, boiling water, kalk paste, or many other safe options.

I added a peppermint shrimp for $5 and he ate the 3 small ones I had. Not a guarantee but worth the gamble to me.

I got the rock out the other day and removed it with boiling water, it was on a very corner of a rock so was easy to get and only about 5% of the live rock got exposed to the boiling water. Hopefully this is the last one I see
