I got a partially finished basement so one of the rooms became the reef retreat.

Mines in the living room,no way to enter my house and not see it, plus it fits and has the floor support needed

For me, it has to be in the main living area of my house. Have to be able to see it from the couch, and have to be able to see it from the kitchen.

Ended up going peninsula used as a room divider. Put it where you can enjoy it the most.

Mine is next to my bar and behind my downstairs living room. Key word there is downstairs. This part of my house is on a slab and obviously has nothing below it.

I live in a garage. ;) :)
The entire downstairs is my tank, bar, piano and stuff.

Mancave basement, it's on concrete, so no support needed

OP: This is your best advice. Reef tanks need a fair bit more attention than a freshwater planted tank, and can go downhill considerably faster. Putting the tank where you spend most of your time in the house is a good idea from this perspective.

Having said that, you may or may not wish to place the tank in a living room that doubles as a home theater, because reef tank lights are bright and can be distracting. A bedroom can also be a problem location if you're someone that appreciates silence for sleep. While quality equipment and careful consideration to overflow design can make a tank very quiet, there will still be some noise associated with the skimmer & pumps.

In my case, I much prefer the noise of a 20g nano in my bedroom - to me, it's the equivalent of a white-noise generator.
