I am thinking about re-doing my sump. At 75 gal, it's a bit undersized for my 265 display, and as I've cobbled on more things, it's become an aesthetic and accessible nightmare. Anyhow, I'm toying with doing a tower sump, where multiple tanks gravity flow down into a final reservoir. I'm thinking about a chaeto chamber, followed by a lighted Rock refugium, followed by an unlighted RDSB/cryptic zone, followed by the final sump for reactors, heaters and ATO. Anyone do something like this, and if so, learnings, suggestions, pitfalls to avoid? Sump is in the basement, so I have plenty of height to take advantage of.

My concerns would be 1) where is water going in a power outage, and 2) is evaporation going to be a greater issue if there is more surface area from falling water? Also, will your RDSB be able to be tall enough to allow for decent water depth for it to be effective?

Make the 75 a Chaeto tank, split the flow& have it drain into something like a 125 or Rubbermaid tub for the sump.
