View Full Version : Permeate with Auto Flush installation

I have a quick question about where to install a permeate pump brine input. Should it be installed on the line with just the flow restrictor or on the line where the Auto Flush and the flow restrictor join back together? I guess the question is do you want the water being flushed going through the permeate pump?

I installed in on the line with just the flow restrictor and wanted to make sure I did it correctly.

Thanks

Hooking up a permeate pump can be a little confusing.

First, just to make sure - are you sending RO water to a pressurized storage tank?

Can you tell me if you are using a Auto Shut Off Valve in your system?

Yes, I am.

Again, Yes I am.

I have the premium RODI with the Auto Shut Off Valve and the Auto Flush.

I currently have it set up as following:

The permeate output of the RO unit is going to the permeate in of the pump.
The permeate out of the pump is going to the Auto Shut off Valve.

The Brine ports of the permeate pump are hooked up in the path with the flow restrictor. The auto flush valve is hooked up parallel to that path.

Hopefully that makes sense.

I also have the DI bypass. I added a tee to that and hooked up the pressure tank to the T with a check valve.

You'll want a taste and odor filter between the pressure tank and any drinking water faucet.

Here's a schematic re hooking up the permeate pump with an ASOV:

That is how I have mine hooked up, great.

Now for the Auto Flush Valve. It is not shown on that diagram. Would you hook it up from the BRINE of the membrane to the BRINE IN of the pump, or from the BRINE of the membrane to the drain? or does it matter?

My thoughts were that you were not making permeate during the flushing so you should skip the pump and hook it directly to the drain. Did I assume correctly?

can they be installed without a ASV?

Yes. Do you need a diagram?

is it OK if I removed the original flow restrictor and install the auto flush timer with restrictor instead, will the permeate pump work with this configuration.

Interesting question! Rather than answering off the top of my head - let me verify and get back to you shortly.

After thinking about this, I'd plumb an auto flush without flow restrictor in place of the ball valve I show a few posts above.

thank you very much, this is what I'm going to do.

interestingly, I contacted Aquatec and they don't have an answer!!

Be aware that the person at aquatec to which your question was almost certainly routed doesn't claim a strong background with the permeate pumps.

thank you for your cooperation,

I'm going to order the auto flush timer without restrictor from your site soon.

is the valve original aquatec, and does it contain the 1/4 quick connect and wire splitter ?

Our SKU 5236, the auto flush valve without built in flow restrictor is an aquatec product. It comes with a wiring harness splitter - all with compatible plugs, and has 1/4" quick connects. See the product description here (http://www.buckeyehydro.com/auto-flush-valves/).
