Hi All - I'm looking to find a ~10k multichip/cob LED with good light quality.

This is for a nano tank LED build. I currently have a 50W warm white and a string of blues, but I really prefer the look of a single light source.

If there's anything out there with a nice smooth spectrum I have not been able to find it.

Pretty pricy - are there any photos or reviews of the results vs halide? Betterbyet have you heard of anyone that went back to halide after trying the lumia?

define "good light quality"?
highest CRI?

You'll find tons of threads of people switching from any light source to any other light source.

The more you pay, the better it is. :-)
Depending on the size of your tank, you might be able to get away with one. They also have lens and diffuser that makes the light look completely uniform and not shine all over the room. Problem is for nano tank you have to buy too many other pieces to control individual channels. Good luck!

Yeah - I'd really prefer to keep it simple. There are all sorts of "high cri" / vivid color phosphor based leds. Unfortunately they top out around 5600k.

My best bet may be to contact one of these manufacturers and find out what a high temp multi, partially doped with red phosphor + 2 to 4 cyan chips would cost.

I have used a few from this company for a few diy lights I like them ... You can add reflectors or lenses as well ...

Thanks - this one looks almost perfect - wonder if they take custom orders.

Apparently LED-world will take custom design requests for those CREE panels.

It is possible that they will be from low bins...but maybe not.

In any event - the price is certainly right.

The lumia looks pretty premium - albeit very similar to some of the above offerings. But unfortunately it's not the spectrum I'm looking for when fully powered. I'd rather have a simple single circuit, dimmable solution. This will cost roughly $60 instead of $250

If they're not cree, what are they? Certainly not Phillips. It has been stated elsewhere that there are only three LED manufacturers. That leaves Epistar?

You're looking for something that gives good color that isn't just for fluorescent (since you mentioned CRI), and the Lumia does give that at full power - a white light with a hint of blue with both good fluorescent and non-fluorescent response. The more blue you add, the more fluorescent response you get while reducing the non-fluorescent.

Ooooh! Is it the version that tells me the radiant efficiency of those Luxeon limes? Cuz I already gots the other internets. :D

R_Mc, I'm curious to know what you finally end up with.

So ... I was reading over this and wanted to ask a question. Is there any way to determine if the LED you have in front of you is made by CREE? Any distinguishing marks or things you can look for?
