Fellow reefers, need some input on this Marineland Reef Capable LED Lighting System . Does anybody has use this lights, how good are they DR Fosters site have good reviews, I'm on a budget side, looking around $150 tops, also I have been looking at t5 coralife? they are for a 75 gal tank 36"x24 depth. thanks for any help.

Skip it. If your budget is 150 look into ocean revive S026 ($136). Or reef breeders sell d120 units for close to that. But seriously SKIP SKIP SKIP the marineland fixture. 1 ocean revive will be a little dim on the edges but you can always get another down the road. It will still be far better than the marineland LED.

If your tank is 36 long and 24" front to back you will want at least a 6 bulb t5.... Individual reflectors for each bulb are preferable to get the best performance.

Review on the same light, but the t247 model has a built in timer.

Marineland LED units are for fish only tanks. If you want to grow corals you need to go another route.

Just checked the ocean revive , and for one that is 16" in length and my tank is 36" does that mean that one in the middle would be enough for fowlr only (for now).

It would suffice, you could certainly do corals too if you kept them more toward the center. It is advertised as covering 24" so essentially you would have 6" on each end that would be a bit dim. With the light 12" above the water I bet it would be an acceptable spread.

With corals in mind, keep higher light ones toward the center and soft/lower light corals toward the edges for now.

Thanks for the replies. I'm barely starting the tank.

Cool. Well keep researching and you will have something you can be happy with for years, instead of replacing a bunch of less than optimal equipment.

thats good advice. ^
the marineland would be fine for a while, and really not as terrible as people make them out to be, but you will eventually upgrade. and i hear great things about the ocean revives.

Let us know how it goes. Start out with the intensity turned down for corals and slowly turn it up over 6-8+ weeks.

Thanks mpierce, I just ordered it can't wait to get it, and now I have to figure how to hang it with a sleek design. I won't have any corals for a while , but once I start getting them there is the light.
This is my old nano few years back.

Looks like a nice clean little setup. Hope the new one outshines it when it hits its full glory.

On a side note with the s026 light, one little quirk I noticed is that the light intensities can be different from one to the next when the dimmer knobs are in the same positions. I have been adjusting mine with a watt meter and it keeps the color and intensity equal between all 3 of mine. Something to think about if you end up with a second unit.

You can buy them on ebay, they are the vendor. When you paypal it goes to oceanrevivellc. They also have a segment here under the sponsor forums. Post over there I am sure you will get a response. They seem to be pretty active.

As far as other fixtures, there are plenty out there but the OR have a pretty good mix of color for reef tanks. Many of the others have too much white. I also like the high kalvin of the whites the OR use because it doesn't have a strong purple look to it like many LED fixtures, but that is personal preference. I have used fixtures with neutral whites in the 3500K range and never noticed the purple look untill I switched.

Ebay this: 2014 New Full Spectrum Dimmable 120W LED Aquarium Light Coral Reef Marine Lamp

Pretty cheap, it is an "evergorw d120" fixture. They are all over the place for ~$100. That particular one doesnt show what LED colors it has, but seems to be a pretty good mix. Too many whites in my opinion however.

Here is the layout I found from another listing.
LED Layout:

Dimmer One(28 LEDs): Warm White(3500-4500K), Neutral White(6500-7500K), Cool White(10000-14000K),

Green 520nm, Deep Red 660nm, UV (400-420nm):

Dimmer Two(27 LEDs): Blue 460nm, Royal Blue 450nm.

Please look at other lights for Reef Tanks.

I would not even use these lights for Fish Only as they are very ugly and the color is Very Yellow.

They are pretty much the absolute Worst LED's on the Market (The only thing worse are the Aqueon LED's).

Just because they get good reviews does not mean anything.

Who is doing the reviewing?

Somebody with a lot of Reefing Knowledge and Credibility?

or Noobs that do not know any better.

No Serious Reefer ever even considered these lights otherwise you would see more bad reviews.

Look for Credible Reviews not just any Review.

Fosters and Smith Caters to a Different Crowd.

I would look at Reefing Sites like this one for information or maybe Marine Depot not DFS.

There is a Reason Why nobody uses these lights.
