Looks nice. I bought a Duncan on Saturday and it doesn't want to seem to open up yet. Maybe too much light even though it's down at the bottom. I was going to try to feed it tomorrow to see if that gets it to open up. It opened up but just a little. It seems that if something is near it, it closes up for the most part.

Are your parameters in check? Alk/cal/mag? Nitrates? What type of lights, and the height of the bottom of your tank to the light fixture itself? Do you have any fish that could possibly be nipping? Angels, butterflies, rabbitfish etc. etc.. Them not opening up for almost an entire week isn't normal, something is off.

SG = 1.026
Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate and Ammonia = 0
Alk = 8.4
Ca = 425
Mg = 1580
Running Radion G3's at 50% approx. 24" from the coral

Only a pair of Clownfish, some crabs and snails in the tank so far.

My hammer coral is looking good and so is my torch. Torch and Duncan were both picked up last Saturday at a frag swap. The Duncan was looking good at the frag swap.

Thanks!

Either it's getting too strong flow or something is annoying it. Once I noticed one of my large duncan colonies was closed for a few days and I was puzzled. Then I noticed an emerald crab was sitting amongst the branches like it was his own personal tree house. And if my tang tries to pick algae off my duncans they will stay closed for several hours.

Flow is definitely a possibility, and I have also had issues with an emerald crab and one of my duncan colonies... Not sure about Mellows, but my emerald was occasionally cutting tentacles off of the polyps. I was going to leave the emerald, but the duncan never got used to the occasional hair cut so I got rid of him.

Your parameters seem fine, light seems fine.

Thanks, I have it under a power head in a corner. It's open now, but doesn't look like most of the pictures I see or like it was when I picked it up. I tried to snap a few pictures but they all seem blurry. It doesn't show a much movement so I think I have it in a low flow spot.

Give the duncan some time. When I got my frag it seemed to grow larger with every week I had it. It took awhile for it to open fully.

Ok, here are two shots of it. One with the flash on and one without. Different angles as well. Sorry for the crappy pictures. I have an old DSLR and haven't sued it in a long time.

Duncan's can be funny like that sometimes. Squirt some mysis in it and give it time.
