Decided it was time to set up a new tank, I had considered going much larger, but just don't have the space. I was going to have a custom tank built, but ended up finding a Deep Blue Professional Edge 34 Frag tank. Didn't know they existed until the local guy that was going to build me a tank sent me a pic from a LFS. He said it would save me money, and it would probably be a better route overall. I agreed, and got it for 180.00. Looking for some advice on equipment, if you have suggestions on something else to use, that will be better served for this tank( heavy SPS) please let me know. Equipment plans are as follows:

Tank- Deep Blue Professional Edge 34
Stand- Custom DIY, fully removable front panel
Lighting: Nanobox Hybrid(Black)
Flow: Maxspect Gyre 130
Sump: DIY 20L sump w/ Refugium
Return: Sicce Quiet One 3.0
Skimmer: Vertex Omega 130
Controller: Neptune Systems Apex w/ PH probe and Breakout Box for ATO and lnterior stand lighting control.
Reactor: Two Little Fishes 150(x2) run off Return
Heater: Titanium Heating Element
ATO- Float Switches ran through controller
Dosing: TBD, looking into several, waiting to decide
Rock- Dry rock from Caribsea

Stocking Plans:

-Heavy SPS
-Acan garden
-Ric Garden
-Zoa Garden

-Goby /Pistol pair, must have
-Verigated urcin
-Scarlet Shrimp
-some kind of Pretty Wrasse? Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse/Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse maybe?

There are a few fish I am dying to have, that I acannot have, like a Copper Banded is on and no way that will work, same with Anthias. So will make due with other fish options.

This build was started on another forum, so there will be a large chunk of pics off the rip, lol!

Feel free to slap in your advice, suggestions, and otherwise hang around during the build!

Started by building the standard 2x4 rectangles.

Next we used a pocket hole jog to mount the legs, stand is 33" tall.

We knew that the stand didn't have a lot of side to side strength, but we were skinning in ply, so no biggie. Next we skinned the back and two sides:

We then built the front panels, 1x6 frame:

The onto the detail work, we built 2 boxes from 1x3 pieces, 45 degree corners:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/Steensj/1D14B657-A261-434A-BE86-7C226CE08253_zpsejb76hze.jpg (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/Steensj/media/1D14B657-A261-434A-BE86-7C226CE08253_zpsejb76hze.jpg.html)

Next we routed the inner surface to a half circle with recess accent:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/Steensj/8B210B5A-A289-43C9-9616-BC47D62AB97F_zpsshhiz8au.jpg (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/Steensj/media/8B210B5A-A289-43C9-9616-BC47D62AB97F_zpsshhiz8au.jpg.html)

Then mounted to the front frame:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/Steensj/0F18BFC0-7466-4875-BA35-9562CB371199_zpsyltxbyg5.jpg (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/Steensj/media/0F18BFC0-7466-4875-BA35-9562CB371199_zpsyltxbyg5.jpg.html)

After that, we did some basic framing to build up for pedestals on corners. We wished we'd have some a few things different, but no going back now.... We then added a top piece, to gram the tank, cut out and accented with a router, and crown moulding around the bottom ans raised corners, this is where we left off:

Next we started the second day by building the bottom trim:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/Steensj/IMG_1379_zpseecbjzol.jpg (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/Steensj/media/IMG_1379_zpseecbjzol.jpg.html)

Next we built the door frames, routed the inner edge with a deep rounded and recessed cut, and the outer edge with a light bevel:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/Steensj/IMG_1382_zpswohursyl.jpg (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/Steensj/media/IMG_1382_zpswohursyl.jpg.html)

Next, we put the doors together, I wanted the whole front removable, this allowed great access to the sump area, the assembly is so light it wont make much of a difference:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/Steensj/IMG_1385_zps8jlocefn.jpg (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/Steensj/media/IMG_1385_zps8jlocefn.jpg.html)

Then I cleared the stain, painted the inside, and mounted the magnets for the doors:

One last pick with the tank on and all buttoned up. learned a lot with this stand build, should have used conditioner before staining, would have made the product better. But the odd stain pattern grows on me more and more, hope that doesn't change!!

Nice job on the stand, turned out awesome!

Thanks you! For the cost, I will never buy a premade stand again. For EVERYTHING( minus screws) I was under 170.00. No pressboard, and solid wood.

Looking forward to seeing this tank progress. I have the same tank and love it. I'll be interested to see how you like the Gyre 130. I'm currently running an MP10, but have been thinking about buying a Gyre 130.

Apex board complete! In retrospect I should have also sanded the face smooth, but whatever.....

Started by mapping out what I wanted for placement:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/Steensj/55391B56-18CD-479B-B176-D2920089F544_zpswsswiqru.jpg (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/Steensj/media/55391B56-18CD-479B-B176-D2920089F544_zpswsswiqru.jpg.html)

Then cut holes for cords with hole -saw....
Next used a router to round inner edges of holes(prevent chafing) both front and back. I debated how to make the inside edges of the holes safer for cables, thought about grommets etc, decided on this.Worked like a champ, I also rounded the putter edges of the board.

Did you use reef safe silicone for the dividers in the sump? I made that mistake once and I lost a lot of live stock and that big tube you were using looks similar to the one I used so if you just got that from a hardware store chances are it isn't reef safe. If it's not reef safe your gonna want to cut all of that silicone out and reglue them with reef safe silicon. Other than that it's looking great so far

Used GE Type 1, same thing I've used for years. 100% silicone, same thing most people use for sumps and baffles, never had one issue! Thanks for the lookout though. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the compliments! The stand cost a whopping 170.00 to build, cheaper then even a press-board type stand you can buy in LFS! Took about 6 hours to build, 10 with staining and finishing

I'm currently running a 75 gallon freshwater tank and built the stand. Used pretty much the same method, except for your amazing upper lip. Used some earth magnets to hold the front panel on. It was my first build and I learned a lot. But I do know I will always use magnets and a complete removable panel!

Agreed! I love the access to the whole interior, makes everything much easier.

Progress, Tank has been moved into the condo, and set up. I am ready for water, rock, and sand, but I am waiting on my base rock and sand as the weather has delayed my delivery. In the meantime, the rest of the tank is ready to rock!

Good, hard to tell with nothing in the tank. It will definitely move some water. It is 100% quiet, which is nice. In the shallow tank, it will suck air when I turn it up to high. I imagine I will be very happy with it, as well as my corals. I might still end up going to 2x MP10 quiet drives in the future. Love your tank!

Esage, how loud is your overflow? My overflow teeth cause a HORRIBLE trickling noise. I might have to downgrade my pump too. But as the water overflows into the overflow chamber, it makes aloud trickle noise. The plumbing doesn't cause noise, just the surface skimmer?

Fingers crossed my Nanobox Reef Hybrid light fixture ships out in the next few days!

The overflow is pretty quiet. I'm running with the overflow adjustable gate removed. The only time I can hear it trickling is when the MP10 maxes out in reefcrest mode and splashes water through the overflow grate.

It's a little lower than I would like it, but I decided to run the water level lower because water was splashing out of the tank when the MP10 was maxing out. I was always cleaning salt creep on the front of the tank and got tired of doing.
