Hey all. I'm working on building a sump for a 180 or 210 gallon tank and was looking for some advice and help.
So I was planning on getting a 55 and using some glass sheets to silicone a few baffles into. 1st stage-skimmer
2nd stage- some live rock and some reactors maybe (gfo/carbon)
3rd stage- essentially nothing, just a bubble trap baffle.

Then from the 3rd stage I would like to drill a hole in the side of the glass 1" or 1 1/2"? That leads to say a 30 or 40 br that is a fuge in itself. (DSB and macro algea) Then make a small section via bubble trap baffle that houses the return pump.
Is this feasible or is this a little overkill?
My original plan was the put the fuge in the middle section of the 55 but thought it would be small for a 180. Let me know guys. I will try to get a drawing up to better visualize my idea.

Excuse my god awful drawing. If someone could recommend an app to get good rendering drawings that would be awesome too.
Oh and in last question...what is a good light light to out over the refugium? Would it be instance to throw t5s over it?

I've been working on a sump design as well. I used sketchup to model it. Looking at in in 3D was super helpful to make sure everything will fit before I build it. Here is a thread where I basically ask the same question you did.
