I have a canister filter next to my refugeum returning water back to tank. It keeps pushing out little spurts of micro bubbles..... Why??

Do you have any foam media in the canister?

I have a 5 gal canister on my system. We eliminated the bio-balls, remove a few each time you clean the canister. The foam/filter pads are your problem. Be sure to rinse them well during each cleaning. You should be cleaning the canister at least once per month. If you can eliminate any of the foam that will help. Is your carbon in a filter bag? I'm assuming you have Live Rock.

To answer your original question, when my canister gets dirty it pushes out micro bubbles.

I have a canister, yes. Since I'm not a plumber a sump seemed difficult to do. Why do you have a canister and a sump? Usually its one or the other.

I would clean it bi weekly. I used to have one hooked hip all the time but got a refugium hooked up so now. Noticed a drop in nitrates after I remove the canister filter. I guess I wasn't cleaning it that often.

I bought a canister filter when I started my new tank. then learned about a refugium and decided to build one now I use my canister filter to pump the water from the sump back to tank
