I'm a newbie setting up a 29 gallon tank, and I was wondering if a flame hawkfish, a gumdrop coral croucher, a black ocellaris, and a chromis or two are compatible? And if I ever have enough pods, could a mandarin dragonet live with them? I'm mainly worried about the croucher and the hawkfish, since they both perch on rocks and hawkfish are territorial. And would my tank be overstocked? Thanks in advance.

Tank wouldn't be overstocked necessarily but your approaching the limits of a 29g. Without a sump I doubt your pod population would ever be large enough to support a mandarin. Add the clown and hawk fish last

One chromis, they'll kill each other off.
No mandarin in that size tank, I'm afraid.
I'd suggest you add them in this order: chromis, croucher, clown, hawk. Personally, I'd choose one rock-sitter fish to keep the tank slightly lighter stocked. Lighter-stocked tanks are easier to deal with.

I didn't have much luck with a hawkfish in my 29g BioCube. He was a bully and chased around all my other fish at the time. He was a pia to get out as well. Traps didn't work. I ended up draining most of the tank during a large water change and netting him in 1" of water.
Just my experience, your mileage may vary. He was cool to watch though.

i had a longnose hawkfish in a 29g biocube w/o a single problem. he lived with a couple of snowflake clowns and a royal gramma till i upgraded. they aren't shrimp-safe though so if you want any shrimp, you won't be able to have a hawkfish.
