View Full Version : Eels for 75 gallon tank
I just got a new 75 gallon tank and i would love to put some eels in it. I would like to have a least two eels (if possible) and I do not want them to be too aggressive. Does anyone have any ideas?

Pair of dwarf golden eels. They stay small so not a lot fits in their mouth but they will eat shrimp.
Here's a pic of one of mine.

Garden Eels
I heard garden eels require expert care is that true? I also heard they hide a lot under the sand is that true too?
And thank you for the info!

Garden eels are finicky.
For a 75 I think Gymnothorax miliaris is probably the perfect moray species.
can a white mouth eel, yellow canary eel or fire coral eel go in a 75 gallon tank or is that to small? Also are these eels very aggressive or are the semi-aggressive?

Snowflake or dwarf golden.

Like I said in the other thread, man, I don't think any eels other than a gdm or a chesnut is suitable for a 75, unless of course you do want to do garden eels, I didn't mention that in the other thread, but they could work. But they need a deep sand bed which is has its own hazards. And they can be difficult to feed at first, so there's that.

My buddy has a ghost ribbon eel...that would work in a 75. Stays pretty small and only needs to eat once every few weeks...it's out all the time too...pretty cool eel
Thanks so much for the info. Also i heard a lot about the ribbon eels and i think they look really cool!

Garden eels aren't really eels, they're more like some sort of pipefish/worm thing. They're also tricky to keep, yes.

Garden eels are eels, they're just not morays. That being said, recommending them for someone who asks a question like the one in the OP is like recommending orange-spotted filefish to someone who asks "What's something good to go with my Dory-fish?"
Golden Dwarves are also bad recommendations because they can and will get out of almost anything quite easily unless you're an expert at sealing your tank.
Well i did keep a snow flake eel for 4-5 years so i know how to seal a tank.

Golden dwarf morays are a lot smaller than most snowflakes you'll ever see. You can keep them in you just have to deal even the tiniest of holes.

I mean, with any eel you have to make sure you seal the aquarium extrememly well. Obviously a smaller eel can get through smaller holes. Still, people keep them all the time, so its obviously not impossible to make sure they cant get out. Just make sure you dont have 300 or more dollars dried up on the floor, not to mention the poor eel died because you didn't seal it right

You could easily pick one of the hardier ones. Chanlink or zebra.
Had a Skeletor Moray in our 55 gallon for a while. Was a great eel :)
Thank you for all of the info!
