Have you seen any aggression issues with the other fish in the tank? Possibly an injury. We need better pics to say for sure.

Agree on clearer pictures. Doesn't look like HLLE. How long have you had the fish? QT? Almost looks like ammonia burn on the gills.

Ammonia burn???normal aggression at being from yellow tang but that was only fist day it so,qt two and half weeks and been in dt for 2 weeks
I'll try getting some better pics but we all know fish are camera shy :-) does look like a lesion almost like cut with bruising, no other marks on him

You might have had a fish fight; Tangs in general can be quite aggressive, and Naso tangs in particular are known for being aggressive to other tangs. Keep in mind that a 55 gallon tank is way, way too small for this fish as it grows - even a 180 gallon tank would be quite small for it as it matures.

Yea got to update my info, upgraded tank from 55 to a 220 :-) my wife got it for me for Christmas last year otherwise yes your right I would never try and keep a naso in such small quarters
Hoping that was fight that took place at night and he'll be o.k.don't see any aggression from any of the fish, the yellow tang is the jerk in the tank
