The Sicce pumps are relatively quiet. No pump is truly silent and you won't get the Sicce to become silent. If it's a new pump there is always a break in period. The first few weeks of operation are like @$% when will this thing shut up. It will get a little more quieter but don't expect a drastic change.

There are quieter pumps. My hydor seltz L30 was way more quiet than my Sicce 1.5. The Hydor seltz L40 is very comparable to the Sicce 3.0. Also, my Jebao DC6000 at setting 2 of 6 is basically dead silent (setting 4 of 6 is when I start to notice the noise it makes and I'd say I'm extremely picky about the sound of my tank). I have to open the door to my stand and put my head in there just to make sure it's running.

Just so you know I went through the same exact thing with my Sicce 5.0. I replaced it with a Jebao DC6000 and don't regret a thing. Same deal with my Sicce 1.5 replaced it with a Hydor seltz L30 no regrets. Sicce is a great quality pump but not silent by any means.

I have one on each tank. They are silent. They weren't at first, but once they build the slime coat in them, they get silent.

I have a week old 1.5, most of the noise came from vibration. I sat it on top of some vinyl tubing and it's very quiet now.

I just replaced a mag drive 7.5 with a sicce 2.0 and WOW. It is silent. I can actually talk to someone in the kitchen without yelling.
