Do I need as much rock in a fish only as I do in my reef. Also do you set the fuge in the sump he same. Thanks

I think he means is it better to have the fuge set up differently than how most people do in a reef. My answer is that there are a lot of different ways to set up a fuge, some better than others. There isn't anything I would point to as being better for a fowlr set up than a reef. And I agree with dmorty. It really depends on the amount of fish and the amount of waste they will produce in relation to the amount of water they are in. In general, the 1 lb per gallon holds pretty much the same. However, in my eel tank I have only about 60 lbs of rock, but I have an established sand bed and my eel is the only thing in there, also, for the amount of water in my dt, I have about equal that in my sump and fuge, plus I have a good skimmer and do weekly water changes as well. I'm also adding dry rock slowly over a long span of time to get it up.

There are a lot of different ways to filter a tank. I simply use the amount of rock I think looks good and have a decent skimmer. The amount of rock you need depends on the amount of livestock you put in, you need enough bacteria to handle the bio load. I personally don't think there is some formula you have to follow, if it looks good and you don't see ammonia or nitrites youre fine.

As far as fuge goes, you can set it up however it fits your system. No different than a reef tank.

As long as there is enough hiding spaces and rock work to break line-of-sight to disperse fish aggression should be considered as well in addition to actually having "open swimming space" for larger fish.

You can compensate stocking more bio filtration in your sump if you can get away with a more open rock-work design
