Would it be a good idea to put a sheet of rubber, Corian, wood or some other support underneath my sump when it sits on top of an open grid shelf? The shelves I bought are a heavy-duty plastic (global industries.com). Shelf capacity is 925 lb. and the sump is 36 x 16 x 16. Also, what do you use to level your aquarium stand or sump shelves? Wood strips, some kind of plastic wedges or? Thanks!

Under my sumps I use the kind of thick rubber mat that sometimes gets used under washing machines or in industrial settings just to reduce the possible transfer of vibrations from the aquarium pumps a bit. I don't know if it's necessary though...

I cut my wife's yoga mat to size and used it as a vibration damper. She wasn't happy but she got a brand new one so it worked out...

Those shelves might be rated for that kind of weight, but they will bow something terrible. I would suggest a 3/4" piece of plywood.

Oh yea....I forgot, I used a 3/4 piece of plywood too...painted it to look nice :)

Used foam on our display tank's sump (200 gallon sump) since it was acrylic and resting on a metal sheet.

Just the 8x4' 1/2" foam sheets you find at Home Depot or Lowes.

Not going to use anything on the frag tank's 75 gallon sump since it's a normal plastic rimmed glass tank. Just sitting right on the tile.

Thanks all, plywood sounds like a good idea, and my wife's been asking about a new yoga mat.
