View Full Version : Water Alarm: a very good idea
They do make them. If you are worried about leaks, misbehaving skimmers, etc, go to your favorites sale site and search the term 'water alarm' and look for the words 100 decibels. As with smoke detectors, they require battery changes. Mine is from Amazon.
You set the sensor on the floor or wherever you worry about leaks. If the surface is dry, there is no contact and the alarm doesn't go off. If water reaches that sensor, it screams bloody murder.
This gives you a chance to stop the problem before it costs you a carpet, or your tank.

+1 - and if hooked up to your controller (like an Apex) it can be used to automatically turn things on / off and notify you...
If you realize that a 100 gallon tank that has chosen to empty itself via a slipped hose or the like...contains 3 standard trashcans full of water---that's a lot of water on the carpet. And kalk is even worse.
We figure our first signal of disaster is going to be both cats clinging to the ceiling: 100 decibels is about the noise level of a car horn.

I have one inside the stand, and another in back where, if it is going to leak, most probably will. All of $10 each at HD/Lowes
