Just find a pump rated between 5-10x turnover of your display and remember to calculate head loss. Mag Drive, Eheim, even a Maxi Jet would be fine.

Generally, your return pumps flows 5-10x the size of the DT. About 120-240 gph at whatever height your DT is over your sump. Eheim 1250, Sicce Syncra 1.5, Hydor Seltz 320, or a Lifeguard Aquatics 1200. I've been told that Eheim and Sicce are very nice, Hydor has decent quality, and I've only heard a little about Lifeguard.

Brilliant thanks. So Im looking for a ball mark between 350 and 400gph right?
Height of DT is about 1.6ft to the left and not directly under the tank. Seems like enough I think

I'm a fan of buying somewhat oversized return pumps. Doing so will give you the flexibility to run a manifold to your reactors, and, a year from now when you want to upgrade, you'll already have the pump you need! An eheim would be my first choice - you really won't find a more dependable pump.

im sure ill get laughed at but:

if it breaks down in a year, it was 15$.
they are pretty powerful little things.
I did a bit of DIY and was able to rig 1/2" - 3/4 adapter then i plumbed it up to the DT as 3/4 inch as return.

Yeh Im looking for a cheapish return pump. Anyone used the Hailea?
Im looking at the Hailea HX8825 2400l/H (or around 630gal/h) is it too much?
or Hailea HX-6530 1750l/H
Here is the plumbing plan

The Dt will have one return and one outflow, dotted lines is the light stand. The cabinet under the tank is too small for a 10gal sump. So the sump is going in the larger freshwater cabinet next door
Skimmer will go in the first section. return in the second. Not sure if a pipe from the return leading back to the first section is needed. But Im going by other sumps plans Ive seen.
Also what bulkhead is required for a 35mm drilled hole. It is the 3/4 inch?
