is it needed for a 40G breeder?
The damn thing sounds like a tractor. no matter where I position it.
if it is just me and getting used to it, but i don't want it to be grinding something and causing damage. it is brand new only a week old.
I contacted Vortech and they said it takes 1-2 weeks to "break in".
The quietest i can get it, is if I position it around 1/4" off center.
but then it slowly slides to center again and rattles.
if i remove the rubber spacer would it get more solid and make less noise?
it is not vibration it is like hard gear noise. the dry side has a slight whine to it, but that's normal.

I don't have one but that just doesn't sound right to me. I would think as popular as those are it would drive most crazy. Sounds like something is out of balance.

Maybe send that video to vortech and see what they say. Maybe you can get a refund and get a maxspect xf130, that would look slick in your tank.

i already emailed them the video to see what they say.
whats crazy is the day after i purchased the mp10 from MarineDepot (which is another issue, I saw the gyre!
I fell in love immediately!
I also love the reef crest mode, but i seen a video where the gyre shoots a wave across the top of the water surface and bmy jaw dropped!!!
i might get one anyway for the other side of the tank and get rid of the other two small powerheads.
this way i get big waves and massive flow with random =P yummm

Looking at the manual it says the spacer Should be installed on tanks that are 1/8" or 3/16" and not installed on tanks that are 1/4" or 3/8".
I don't have a 40 breeder myself so I can't be 100% on the measurement, but Google says 40 breeders are 1/4" so I would recommend running it up without the spacer and see if that fixes it for you.

Interesting.
I just removed the spacer n trued it that way. Even worse!
I noticed the wire bracket w the zip tie had some tension on the wire. Once i pulled a little out, it wuieted down some, but still the same grinding sound.
