Now so.e of my other zoas closed and are getting this green algae on them :( i dont know what it is. Please help me. I have lights on for 8 hrs "5-6 hrs on whites and 2-3 hrs on blues". 0 nitrates, 8.3 ph. Water change every 2 weeks so.etimes sooner.

Green algae= phosphate and nitrate problems

Don't trust your zero test on nitrate. I'm willing to bet you have other algae in the tank and it's consuming all testable nutrient levels.

You haven't posted all of your other parameters, which are very important for us to help you.

If polyps are completely disappearing, you may also need to keep a look out for nudibranches as they can destroy zoa colonies quick. If you do see one, use a turkey baster and remove/flush it.

Well i have the basic api test kit so my results were "nitrates-0, nitrites-0, high ph-8.3, amonia- 0.25" salinity is .25... Im using chinese light fixures. I have a 55g tank with 40g sump, coralife super skimmer rated for 150g, 1lb carbon bag, chemi pure blue bag, phosban mini max rated for a 75g, cheato.

Should i be running a uv sterilizer ?

1.025 is fine.

a uv sterilizer will not stop surface algae from forming.

how often do you do water changes?

and how long have they been closed?

what is water movement like on them?

sorry for all the questions, every system is different.

I have to imagine and reverse engineer the system.

When im lazy i do water changes every 2 weeks "15-20 gallons" sometimes i do it every week depending how dirty skimmer is. Zoas have been closed for 3 days now, today i noticed the green stuff on them. Water flow is medium not too high nor to low, the power head is on the left side of the tank and i can tell the right side gets decent amount of flow

its hard to determine.

so many variables.

I would try doing a few extra water changes and see if that helps.

if they were doing fine and closed up see if something near by is bothering them, or like mentioned a nudibranch is about.

try putting them in a different placement. maybe they are getting too much light.
