A new Mag I got this weekend. Just confirming this really is a Mag - everything I know tells me it is but thought I would run it by the experts first. Picture quality sucks but here you go anyways! Lol It is kind of purple with white tips and the foot is green/brown colored. Seems super healthy and is a big boy too. Probably close to 18".

Just a little update - my Mag is still looking healthy and happy! Mouth is super tight and haven't seen any deflation at all. A little after lights out - well, I wouldn't call it deflating, just looks a little smaller. Also, I underestimated his leaping ability. The rock it's on is about 4-6" from the back of the tank, so now it is stretched from one to the other and looks to be headed for the back of the tank. We'll see where he ends up.

Question for you guys - who direct feeds their Mags and how often/ how much? With my BTAs, I very rarely direct feed and they are big and healthy. I noticed it caught some Mysis from last nights feeding ate whatever blew it's way. If I get a few minutes I'll try to get a few pics up.

Ive been dreaming about having an anemone that beautiful. I have a nice RBTA but it doesnt come close to that kind of beauty. I wish I could find one of those around my lfs. Congrats and I hope it stays healthy

Thanks brother! I've had BTAs for 8-10 years and still love them today - BUT - I've really done a ton of reading and looking and then more reading on Mags and Gigs. Well, I believe I'm getting slightly hooked on these beauties! Lol It probably helps that I found a very healthy one to start with. I'll take it slow and really get to know this one first hand and go from there.

Anyone looking to get one of these beautiful creatures, please do your homework and don't be afraid to ask for help. Read all the cipro treatment threads and make sure you're ready to do what may be required to treat. Biggest thing is recognizing a healthy nem as well (and a little luck)!

If your mag can 'touch' any thing adjacent to its rock there's a good chance it'll move. I isolate mine on a tall Rick pedestal.

No need to target feed IMO. If it's happy it will grow regardless. Clowns will often feed it; plus food drifting by and light, more than enough.

Thanks! I 'thought' I had the rock tower all set but my Mag showed me I was wrong. Anything wrong with it hanging out on the back wall? It's foot looks like it is totally on the back wall now but the thing is so big, about 1/3 is still hanging on the rocks. I'll keep watching it to see where it's moving to but is there anything I should be watching for as far as it being happy and healthy? Any point at which I should think about getting him off the wall and restack my rock work?

Thanks again guys! All your advice is appreciated!

Nice and healthy. Nice clowns too.
Your Onyx may loose color in Magnifica.
Best of luck with him. It looks like this anemone have been in captivity for a while instead of new import Magnifica.

Thanks Minh! The clowns are True Percs btw. I think I have had them for 3+ years since they were small. Been waiting for them to start laying eggs but haven't seen any yet. They have cleaned and fluffed all around their nems for a while but no mating... :( The LFS owner said he ordered it in. I asked if it came from a clients tank because it looked so healthy. Not sure where this shipment came from or where they acquired the Mag.

When they are happy it's quite amazing how far they can stretch. My last one got to the point where it's tentacles could touch the front and rear glass of my 24" wide tank at the same time; went for about 10" to 24"+ in less than 18 months - and that was without any target feeding.

Nothing wrong with it on the back wall other than aesthetics ..... and powerheads. Been keeping mags for close to 20 years, and while I've never had anemone purée, I worry about it ALL THE TIME :(

Lol ok. Mine traveled up on the front glass. But here is a pic of the tank I took with the lights going down. And a top down view.

Looks like somebody didn't have the 'stay off the front glass' talk with their nem!! Lol Nice looking Mag!

Does anybody know why some Mags seem to have a little fatter tenticles than others? Maybe it's not the tenticles, maybe just the tips? Maybe it's just me! Any ideas? I'm probably just still nervous that something is going to go wrong. I swear, everyday I crap my pants on my way home from work just dreading what I might find, then walk in the house and see it big and happy!
