I'm brand new to the hobby but i moved into a new home with a 120 g tank built into the wall. I'm considering the Omega 180i protein skimmer largely because of its dimensions.
Can anyone tell me what the "in water" footprint is versus the "out-of-water" footprint. It appears from the pics that the "in-water" footprint is smaller which is what i need due to limited space in my sump.

I've been looking for the same info. This is the only info I have found: http://www.reefs.com/blog/2014/10/14/new-vertex-omega-180i-skimmer-preview/
It says it is a 7" diameter base, so it shouldn't take up as much space as the advertised 10"x11" footprint would make you think. Of course, I don't actually have one.

I'm in the same boat, dimensions look too big but after watching some youtube videos I think it will fit. Ordered one last week and should be here tomorrow. Will post footprint tomorrow.

314589The base is 8.5". My sump is 9.75" wide and with the intake and return sticking out it just squeezed in. I think their numbers of 10" x 11" is legit. Awesome looking skimmer and real quiet.

I agree with the measurements. On a side note do you experience a slight hum/ vibration from your skimmer?

I can hear a slight noise of air, water, and motor hum. I would consider it as quiet as can possibly be expected. I replaced the old skimmer and also the old return pump with an eheim 1262. The sump is now so much quieter and almost silent with the doors closed. The mp40s and the chiller make all the noise.

I have this skimmer too, its way quieter than others I've used. There is a humming noise though. You can try one of those silicone mats to dampen the sound maybe. OXO brand for example.

Thanks guys, I am coming from a reef octopus that you could hear no hum from the motor at all. Just air noise. Thanks for the info. I do love this skimmer and how it skims. I think dollar for dollar there is not a better skimmer out there

I see these mats are made from food grade materials. Might try that

Just an update, skimmer is working great. Pulls much more concentrated skim with no tweaking. I have not touched it or adjusted anything, just set and forget. 315130
