Well I've been in this hobby a year and I have a 55g tank TOM Rapids filter and marine orbit let I only have two sergeant major damsels and a anemone I planned on doing a lot with this tank but today my buddy said I could have his six foot long 125g tank and stand so I have a hard choice to make should I just scrap all the plans I had with my 55 and use it as a sump which means basically with my money situation it would prob take me a year to get the lights sand, rock and skimmer for the 125g i don't mind just staring at my 55g the way it is now for a year but is it any harder with that size of a tank ? I mean it's hard to pass up free

i would get the 125G. you'll have more fish options, more place for corals, and more stable. you'll probably want to upgrade the 55G in the near future anyway. only a suggestion though. i believe you know what works best for you.

I would always go for bigger tank if I have room. I think fish will be a lot happier.

Get the 125g for sure, you can't beat free.

Keep the 55g up and running though, i would continue to add livestock and coral...you'll advance your learning too.

Keep saving for the 125g startup, once you get it all ready to go then take it down, you can move everything from the 55g to the 125. Screw using the 55 for the sump right away find a cheapo 40 breeder and call it good. When you tear down your 55g you sell it or pay it forward and help someone else getting into the hobby.

I have a 25g and want a 120g (4x2x2) real bad...i'm totally happy with the 25g and have no plans to ever take it down...can't wait to get a big tank though way more fish options and room to be creative with coral.

Haha I agree with the rest of the guys .. Keep the 55 going and slowly build it up . That way while you get the larger tank all set up you can fill it up !! Happy reefing #ifitsfreeitsforme

I agree also, but you should know by now that there are no free lunches. "Free" is relative. Seriously, keep both and move slow.

You should totally just keep that 55g going and pass on the 120g. That way i can swing on by and scoop it off your hands!

The 125 will be easier to maintain as well. More water volume = more stable conditions and less chance of parameter swings.

Big time...take it from a nano guy...always have to be on top of a small system. If a butterfly flaps it wings in Japan my tank goes south...lol
