Upgraded to 300 gallon tank. Done with the cycle and got my CUC in. Looks like I may be getting what looks like green hair algae growth. Levels are pH 8.1, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20, phosphate 0. Just got my chaeotomorpha. Running my protein skimmer 24/7. Also running some carbon. Only running lights 5 hours right now. I use RODI water. Thinking it's growing because of the nitrates and the fact that its a new aquarium. Not too concerned right now. Thinking about running GFO to combat it before it gets out of hand. Other thoughts welcome!

That looks like Green Hair Algae (GHA) to me!

I just got done fighting it myself - check out my thread about it HERE (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2480422).

I would guess your rock is leaching phos - GHA loves phos. Did you use dry rock? It leaches a lot more phos apparently.

You need to export the phos out of the tank - carbon, GFO, Purigen, Phosguard and phos removal pad all helped me get rid of it. As well as scooping out any blobs of it that broke free and started floating around. Until the rock has leached all of the phos out, it's probably going to keep growing.

I think it's leaching phosphate as well. I got live rock with the purchase if this tank. However I let it die off and then cycled with it. I'll be sure to check out your thread. Thanks!
