I currently have a 75 gallon set up with a 5-10 gallon sump. I purchased a used 225 and 75 gallon sump and for the past few weeks have been cycling new dry rock in the sump with a deep sand bed. No fish are in the tank but I've been monitoring it and it seems I'm now at the stage with high nitrates and 0 ammonia or nitrites. I'd like to switch off my current sump over to this one and run my existing display tank on this for a while while I repair scratches in my new to me 225.
What would be the steps I would take other than redirecting overflow to this new tank? I'm assuming a water change of the sump is in order to lower the nitrates, then what do I want to do?
