Has anyone here done High End LeD fixture (Ecotech / AI ) with T5 Supplement?

Im just curious for my new 40b setup im doing, I have 2 AI Hydra 26's..

the led's obviously sit middle in the canopy.. 1 at the front 1 at the back..
along the sides of the canopy on both sides I want to do 1 Coral + t5... just to see if I get better coral growth/coloration...

any thoughts?

been thinking of doing that same thing actually have 2 - dual t5s to go along side my radions. Havent been able to find a good way to mount them inside the canopy though.

my canopy works perfectly to mount them... and leaves room for everything to breath.

just kind of sucks, ive searched on here... and cant really find anything on it.. except for T5's with supplemental LeD's... or ive seen ppl using DIY homemade LeD fixtures.. with T5's .

I am just setting up a new tank I am using a combination of Mitras LEDs and ATI T5 units. I love the colour options with the LEDs and the coverage and lighting energy of the T5.

I have a Fluval M48 LED, and added two T5's. Be very careful to acclimate slowly, I bleached out my corals. Most are recovering, some did not. Recovery is taking months.

I currently have 4 AI Sol's with two 160w VHO as supplement. Needless to say, I am switching back to MH + VHO this weekend. I have had my current setup for almost a year and I am just not happy with it.

how often do you run your lights at peak? ...and how long are the T5's on for?

I was thinking of only having the T5's on for 4 hours a day... or splitting it up to 2 hrs on then 2 hrs off and then 2 hrs on...

I used an LET lighting Micro 4 T5 retrofit kit to mount t5's in my canopy along with my hydra 52's. I bought them from BRS. Very easy to mount. I run them for 4 hours a day. Bulb wise I'm using a blue + and a coral +

Just curious, did you start out with just LeD's...and then add t5? or did you start LeD/T5 from the start?

I only ask is because im curious about the before and after ... how was coral color/growth with just LeD..and how was color/growth after T5's added alongside LeD's..

at this point im pretty sure im going to run 2 T5's in my canopy.. and run them for 4 hours out of the day..but I may go 2 hrs on, 2 hrs off, 2 hrs on.. between 1-6..

Switched to a Reefbreeders Photon 48 because I didn't want to do bulb replacements anymore. Color was great, growth was slow, but I only had this fixture for a few months.

Found a pair of Gen 1 Radions for crazy cheap on CL, bought them and upgraded them to Gen 3 pucks.

Loved the color, but growth was slow, real slow.

I added the Gen 3s to the old Tek light by removing the middle reflectors and bulbs. I run the Radions on a modified High Color template at 80% peak and the T5s for four hours during peak daylight.

I absolutely LOVE the color and the growth I am getting. Everything is vibrantly colored and has clear growth. Tank is mostly SPS.

This is a great idea I just don't know if I could keep buying bulbs again. I really like how you have mounted the Radions inside though. I owned the Reefbreeders Nova A4 and had great growth. On the same system I was running a Radion G2 with great growth also. But it really is hard to match the color blend of T5 lighting. If the MH weren't so hot and consumed so electricity I would go back to the old MH/T5 setups. They were the best to grow corals.

I absolutely love the look/feel of both the fixture and how the tank looks with it up.

I was able to mount the Radions on a slight angle so that they point inwards just slightly, which helps with the shadow from the cross brace.

I also added some fans from Rapid LED that I tucked up above the reflectors to help with the heat from the T5s. They are on the same timer as the T5s.

I run a radion gen one with a tank full of sps . Growth was always a limiting factor for me and shadowing was a problem , I started supplementing with 4 t5 and my growth has taken off ! Ecotech makes a great light but there tends to be a pinpoint problem... that might be the case with all the leds IDK .IMO they should come out with a combo fixture that would be pretty cool. I wish I would have added the t5s earlier....

I asked, how many Radions should be needed to light a 48x24" 120, I was told more than two.. So $2000-$3000 to effectively light my tank.

Or I could spend $50 on a used fixture and enjoy the best of both worlds.

I have 3 radions on a 60x24x26 tank and I will probably pick up a 4th. I have been thinking about adding t5's but I don't want to add the bulk above the tank.

I just supplemented my ghl Mitras with two Geisemann 2x24 razor retro kit lights. I run ATI blue plus Geisemann Aquablue azure kz Fiji purple and kz superblue. So far I am very happy with the color and spread. I want to use a par meter to really dial in the led intensity. Right now they peak at 55 percent. I run the t5 for 6 hours a day during the peak. Coral growth is slow but it is a real new system, only a few months old. I'm hoping once everything settled in growth will take off.

I run a Radion g2 pro at 8' and 4 t5 at 6'. Tank is 36x28x22. It,s 2 months since I started with Sps mostly Acros. I am in observation phase in relation with growth. Happy with colors.

I made this canopy from my radion pro and 2 t5 fixtures that i had.

Corals are responding well and there are no shadows now.

Yes, I have seen this build, I really like it. My tank is 36", and just realized they dont have an 8 bulb tek light.

Would it be worth the effort (and about $100) to do the retro into a tek for just 2 T5 bulbs? Would you suggest both in front, or split? My though it if they are split, and different colors, will it be noticeable ?

Custom schedule. Starts at blue ramps up through the presets to 12k then back down to blue. I would say 60% of my sckedule is 12k-14k the rest is blue and 20k.

Running front to back ati actinic, b+, c+, b+. I have some giesemann bulbs on hand but am really liking the current set up so not felt compelled to change.
