View Full Version : Setting up with a CHANCE of moving the tank later...how to.

Corner bowfronts have many advantages: access to the rear is not one of them.

As a veteran of the corner bowfront, I offer this for what it's worth, if you're setting up on tile or carpet...and there is a way to do this as an after thought: a drastic way, but a way.

The key to it is those huge Teflon furniture glides you can get at the hardware, the sort sized like a supersized hamburger. Get a modest brown sort if possible, because part of this will show a little.

Get several of those under the stand, never far from each other, so that you don't have unsupported areas of the stand. Now a couple of people moving carefully can slide your tank over the carpet. The pads stay in place forever. Yes, if you look down you can see the edge of them. But your glorious tank will get the visual attention.

If you find yourself in a crisis and have to move out from the wall or down the wall, you can add these later, with the help of friends---real strong ones. You de-water the tank, put rock and fish into buckets, thus lightening the tank very considerably. Several friends rock the tank forward, holding it, while a brave person or people get(s) pads under the rear and part of sides. Then repeat to line front of sides and front with glides. Now your tank should be able to move. Move it. To rewater without kicking up the sandbed, either float a flat garbage bag as you pour water atop, or use a mixing bowl on the sandbed to prevent sand kickup.

Better to do it at setup than later, but it can be done.
