Hi everyone I just started to get into saltwater recently and I know most people make their own sump system. Right now I have a 55 gal and with a cpr bak pak 2 skimmer on it only. But I really want to make a sump so my water can go through it first and then through my skimmer. Problem I have right now is my stand is about 18" high so I have limited space in it. I check all the skimmer there is and all of them wouldn't fit under my tank. Is there anyway I can get the water down to the sump and then using another pump to get water into the protein skimmer hanging on my tank? Please don't know what to do now. Thank you everyone.

Yes, u could get a pump to your pskimmer. Other option is to build a Pskimmer custom to ur space.

Thanks for replying doggie750. So I should get an pump in the sump and pump it up into the skimmer pump with another hose will that work? Because the air hose is connected to the skimmer pump.

You would like to calibrate the amount of bubbles in your PS so introducing new bubbles might be beneficial or NOT. You could regulate this with a pinch valve.
Another option is place a spacer to increase the height of your stand then put a hole to place your PS, energy efficient- eliminate the additional pump.
It’s a HOBBY that’s why it requires WORK………Have fun……LOL

I'm thinking about another option is to buy another stand that that have enough space to fit a 20g sump in it. And everything will be solve but I really don't want to take everything out of the tank and start over just for a sump sigh.

Got an idea: Buy a 120 gal or more and use your 55gal as sump! :)

Why not just keep the skimmer set up the way it is? If your going to use another pump to pump water from the sump to the skimmer, your going to need a decent pump to t off and allow return to your tank. Why not just add the sump and let the skimmer run the way it is? You will still get the benefit from the sump.

Sounds like what I'm thinking but are you talking about the return pump from the sump pump water into the tank directly or into the skimmer pump?
