does it need to be run in a reactor or can it be used in a canister type filter?

The advantage to a reactor is that you can get the GFO to tumble at just the right rate...not so much that it will grind itself to dust, but enough to keep it fluid and active.

You can run it in a canister type filter, but it wont be as good of use of it (primarily I think it wont last as long).

from what I've read, the slower the water passes through the gfo, the better it will work!
