I've got a tank with old live rock that has been sitting for 6 months, with no inhabitants. I tested the water and the phosphate is 1.41 on a Hanna low range phosphate meter. I did a couple test and both were same. Then I tested some ro/di water to make sure the reagent was good. The test came out 0. So, it's legit.
Now I'm in the middle of starting up an LPS/SPS tank. I'm wondering if I can use this live rock. Do you guys think i could pull all that phosphate out of that LR with phosphate remover/skimming/Algal Turf Scrubber Or should I dump this 5yr old live rock and start new?
It's 100 ish lbs so it's a lot of money that I could use on a skimmer or whatever. I'm not sure what to do but I don't want to waste time and $ if it's a lost cause.
Any advice people? Thanks for your support.
