Hello all,
I recently fitted a HOB-1 to my 30 gallon tank. I like the skimmer except that the water returns carries a LOT of good-sized bubbles into the tank. The skimmer has been in place for 3 weeks now.
Its the new version with the 'bubble plate'. I've read about the expected micro bubble but these are not them. These are largish, and a stream. Kind of reminds me of the stream you see from those plastic aquarium toy divers. And they're constant.
Is this normal? Here is a still-shot and the bubble stream is circled yellow.
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Why do you have it outputting so deep into the tank?

No particular reason. I've tried it with different lengths, makes no difference as I still get lots of bubbles returned to the tank.

Actually, I just noticed mine does the same thing. I have the stock tube in there, with the 90 pointing towards the back of the tank. It's completely unnoticeable unless you look for it.

Mine isnt - its a constant stream of large bubbles that not only makes noise but also creates a'splash zone' of dried salt all over the LED fixture and skimmer mount.

You could try using the shorter tube, and angling the output so that it hits just below the water line.

Thanks, tried that but the gurgling / bubbles are still there.
I'm perplexed because the HOB-1 has numerous reviews of being super silent and bubble free. I replaced my remora with the HOB-1 and must say the remora was far quieter and absolutely zero bubbles.
That is a common problem with that skimmer.I have the same issue.

ou have to purchase the bubble stop separate.

I recently sold mine. It took about 2 months for the bubbles to stop.

Thanks. Looks like a bubble stop should be fairly easy to rig up. I will play around a little. Thanks

I took a 2" piece of pvc pipe and an old powerhead spre-sponge and hey presto! Bubble stop!
Reduced bubbles by 90% and something I can certainly live with. Not sure about 'back pressure' issues if the sponge clogs. Tomorrow I will add the 90 degree elbow so that my attempt follows the retail design a little more closely (second pic).
Thanks all - much happier now. The salt spray from the popping bubbles was the biggest pain.
