I'd spend just a little extra and get a reef breeders led if you are looking for cost affordable lighting.

Any reason?
These have a 1 year warranty and have more output than reefbreeders

Three things...

They're essentially the same raw materials. Mars Aqua and reef breeders get the hardware from evergrow. So those lights have the same housing, drivers, and led diode brand.

The Mars Aqua is not higher output. Look closer. It has 55-3 watt leds for 165 nominal watts. However, those drivers do not run at a full 3 watts per diode. They're just under 2.2 watts per diode. Says it right there in the description. Reef breeders just doesn't lie about it and openly states that their d120 or "value" fixtures are 120 watts. The actual power supplied to the two units is identical. You're not getting the full 165 watts out of the Mars Aqua.

Lastly...the Mars Aqua lacks violet leds. Deal breaker right there. It is significantly cheaper though.

Reefbreeders are really good. I use ocean revive, personally. But I would never ever use wattage as a measurement of a lights a quality. I think you need to figure out what you want your light to do... Growth, coloration, or a little of both. I would look more at the spectral output of the lights. Below is a idea of the desired spectrums for the zooxanthellae in the corals. Minus the chlorophyll b...

Are The violet leds a big deal? is it worth $80 more?

To me, yes. If you're having to ask if they're worth it, you probably wouldn't notice the benefit in that case.

If the OP is new at this, he wouldn't know. Give him a break.

But yes, the UV spectrum is worth it.
You get some extra color pop.

Think of it as food. The more diverse food(light) your able to give to your corals they more you will see them change, grow, and color up. But buyer be wear True UV's is like giving chocolate to a kid. They love it but too much will cause a heart attack. :) below is the light that I personally use and love. It's a little more expensive and from what I hear reef breeders have amazing support, but here is a good idea where to start when first getting into the LED club.

I am impressed with these, so far(2 months of use).

I like the spectrum a bit more than the Mars Aqua units and the use of BridgeLux diodes. I also looked the Mars Aqua units and chose theese (price is close and the deal is better if you get the 2 pack).

It's cool they put out that much par but most sps prefer 250-400par with leds, I've found. It goes back to the food (light) range.410nm is on the same channel as the blues is awesome. (rarely done). Also what is the size/dimensions of the tank your wanting to put this over?
