I know everyone has an opinion...
But is Tropic Marin the best salt for a FOWLR?

I started with regular Instant ocean and have tried many different kinds of salt before (TM Pro, Coralife, Oceanic, Reef Crystals, etc)
Ultimately for both my anemone tank and my Fowlr I find plain old instant ocean more than meet my needs. Not to mention any money I save from buying the more expensive salts I can put into fish/food/miscellaneous things.

IO here as well. Tried a few others, never saw the tangible benefits.

Wow, I do have to say this is quite shocking...
As I was under the impression that Instant Ocean was not a good product
I was told that the variances from batch to batch are a lot...
I was always told that Tropic Marin was the best...

Best will vary from person to person. I think availability, price and over all value come into play more so than batches varying...

I actually mix IO and Reef Crystals 50/50 for no reason other than I buy what's on sale in bulk. I have a ton of coralline growth, and my mushrooms appear to be quite happy.

I use regular TM. I know Quality Marine exclusively uses TM too.

I use IO because it is cheap and reliable.
I use to worry about what salt I bought when I had a reef and I tried a lot of different brands.
Another good reason going FOWLR is I just buy what is on sale which is usaully IO :)

I use Oceanic right now cause it's a couple bucks cheaper at my LFS than IO/RC. Thinking about doing a 50/50 mix of IO/RC though, kinda dislike the low alk in Oceanic.

If you don't mind the high alk in io it's just fine. And no reason why you should mind without sps coral.

another IO here on my 250 Gal...I have tried Salinity and I didn't like it...it took longer to mix and my saltwater mixing tank was quite dirty after only one pail. Went back to IO and have not looked back since...

In case you're still looking, Amazon has 200g boxes of Reef Crystals for $42.95 (Prime, too): http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0002DJU0G/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used. Damaged boxes, but that doesn't matter. I picked up 3 boxes myself since this is the lowest price I've seen this salt at in over a year.
