It's a brand new pump, not throttled down and I'm using the supplied rubber feet. It has a distinct loud rattle/hum. It's so loud i can hear it from accross the room. Needless to say I am very dissapointed.
Any advice? or should i just return it?
Thanks!

did you take it apart and have a look inside? is it hooked up to anything or are you testing it in a bucket? does it get quieter with an afterload on it?

Took it apart and didn't see anything wrong. I didn't test it in a bucket, it literally went from box to tank. I'm honestly stumped.
Sadly, I think it is louder then the Rio pump it replaced.

probably a lemon, best to return/exchange. I've a synchra 5 and you cant hear it, even with your head in the sump.

what type of piping are you using with the pump? Is the pump or piping or tubing touching the sides of the tank/sump?
A number of things can contribute to noise. I bought some OXO silicone drying mat and wrapped the pump in it.

Yep, I'm thinking I got a lemon, the more I listen to it, the more it sounds like a vibration from the impeller.

I'm using 1/2" soft vinyl tubing. The pump isn't touching anything. It's in the last chamber by itself resting on the 4 supplied rubber feet.

I run a Syncra 1 feeding each of my ATS's, and they are silent.
