I hope this in the right place I am currently setting up a 125 gal tank. And some brought me some really nice looking beach sand. I scooped through it all and didn't see anything. After putting it in my tank. I am noticing large amphiopods and one thing that resembled a pintcher bug. My tank dose not have any water or anything else in at right now just spread out sand while making water. Was wondering how long will it take for hitchhiker to die with out water. The sand is damp but no water pooling. Any advice is appreciated.

Where did you get the sand? Generally using beach sand is not a good idea, it often contains a lot of pollution and impurities that can cause issues and the sand should be aragonite based.

A friend brought it back from big sur, ca. I am only using my for the look. I have read lots of conflicting things about beach sand. After I put in tank. There is still time I can pull it all out but I like the look. My last 2 tanks I didn't use a substrate all just glass bottom

I have been reading several other forums about beach sand. None of which really address my issue. Sounds like people are tryin to discourage it. I am willing to take risk the beach sand as it is. But need to remove criters from in. I suppose I will scoop a little out at a time an boil it. Unless anyone has any positive advice how to rid pests while it is in tank with no water.

Do you have a yard? Try rinsing it outside and let it completely dry out. Rinsing should get most of the debris out and drying it out should kill anything left.
